Description
The M1 J25 - 28 Widening Project provided an additional 4th lane in each direction to 23km of motorway around Nottingham (£320M Scheme). Construction started in October 2007 with completion achieved 6 months ahead of program in June 2010. Partners of Road Safety Initiatives LLP were involved in the Road Safety Audits for scheme, including a consideration of including reduced-width lanes and numerous departures from standard.
Objectives
Road Safety Auditing was carried out for the M1 widening scheme at various stages during design development and on completion. In addition, road safety advice and Audits on the Temporary Traffic Management, related to the improvements together with the possible implications of increasing speed limits during road works, was also provided.
The Road Safety Audit team also provided comprehensive technical support providing added value over and above Road Safety Audit.
